Mamun jailed for 10 years
Special Court 7 on Mar. 27 sentenced businessman Giasuddin Mamun to 10 years and his wife to 3 years r.i. for amassing a huge amount of illegal wealth. He was also fined 10 lakh or one more year if he defaults. The Tk. 141,74 crore assets are to be confiscated. His wealth reached this huge amount in only five years because of his close association with Tarique Rahman, son of the then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, in Hawa Bhavan.
