Five policemen were sentenced to life imprisonment on Apr. 6 by a Chuadanga court for raping a woman at a police camp on Dec. 18, 2004 in Alamdanga upazila. The police had picked up a widow waiting for transport home at 8:30 p.m. They took her to their camp and gang-raped her, injuring her. When her condition got bad they forced a driver to take her home, where she was admitted to the Chuadanga Sadar Hospital. She filed a rape case against the five police on Dec. 22. The probe body said the police did not rape her but “sexually assaulted” her. They were arrested on Dec. 28 and sent to jail. DS 04.07.08
